Polo was brought into the USA in 1875 through the influence of the British Military. Military staff were trained to follow one after the other in battle to fight the enemy. Around the turn of the century, military personnel, ranchers and cattle owners began to use polo as a way to create fun and healthy competition between staff teams on the holidays. In the USA today, there are approximately 5,000 United States Polo Assc. Members to-date. Tulsa Polo Club hosts the Military Appreciation Tournament to share the Mohawk venue as well as share the entertainment of polo with spectators.
